ORAL PIERCINGS It is important that
new piercings are cleaned thoroughly. Oral piercings should be treated
gently; they should not be touched or played with for the first few weeks,
whereas doing so can complicate the healing process. Care should be taken
when eating, whereas most starter jewelry for oral piercings is longer
to allow for swelling. Oral contact and sexual contact should be avoided
for 3 to 4 weeks with new piercings. Only use the aftercare products suggested
for your piercing. We suggest only the most up to date methods to allow
your new piercing to heal well. PRODUCTS WE DO SUGGEST: A well diluted oral antiseptic such as: Tech 2000, Listerine, or Cepecol mixed with clean water. A salt-water rinse using sea salt, kosher salt, or non-iodized table salt. ¼ teaspoon mixed in 8 oz. of warm water. To clean your piercing, rinse thoroughly every time you eat, drink anything except clean water, smoke, ect. It is suggested to gently slide the jewelry up and down with clean hands during 2 or 3 of the daily cleanings. This will carry the cleaning agent through the piercing and free any particles of food, ect. Regular brushing of teeth and tongue is important. During the first few days you may experience some swelling. We suggest crushed ice, ice water and popsicles along with the use of an anti-inflammatory, such as Tylenol, Advil, or Aleve up to 1000mg twice daily for the first few days, to help reduce and control swelling. Some irritation may occur to surrounding tissue, as the piercing may rub other areas. This irritation should pass in the early stages of healing. Changing to a better fitting piece of jewelry once initial healing is done is highly suggested. Your piercer can do this easily and inexpensively. TONGUE: Clean several times daily for 4 to 6 weeks. Regular care should be taken to keep oral piercings clean. LABRET, CHEEK, LIP: Cleaning this type of piercing uses a combination of both the basic aftercare and oral aftercare. (read & follow both) Clean the oral area of piercing several times daily and the outer skin area once or twice daily for 6 to 8 weeks. |
