Basic
Piercing Aftercare It is
important that new piercings are cleaned thoroughly, yet carefully. New
piercings should never be touched or played with unless they are being
cleaned. New piercings should not be treated roughly, and care should
be taken not to allow clothing, makeup, sleeping, or physical activities
to agitate / irritate the area. Only use the aftercare products suggested
for your piercing. We suggest only the most up to date methods to allow
your new piercing to heal well. PRODUCTS WE DO SUGGEST: A mild antibacterial / antimicrobial liquid soap such as: Provon, Satin, Dial, ect. A salt - water soak, or sterile saline (not contact lens solution) soak is also advisable; sea salt, kosher salt, non-iodized table salt.¼ teaspoon mixed with 8 oz. of warm water. A pre-mixed sterile saline solution (Sodium-Chloride 0.9%) is suggested. PRODUCTS WE DO NOT SUGGEST: Alcohol, Hydrogen Peroxide, Povidone-Iodine (Betadine), Hibiclens, and most important NO OINTMENTS (Neosporin, Bacitracin, Triple anti-biotic, A&D, ect.), whereas these products have been found to prolong and / or complicate the healing process. It is normal for your new piercing to remain slightly red for the first few weeks. It is not uncommon to have minor bleeding, bruising, or swelling. A small amount of dried matter (crust) will be noticed where the jewelry enters the skin, it is important not to pick at this in between cleanings. This dried matter will act as a protective barrier against germs and bacteria. The jewelry should not be moved around unless you are cleaning the piercing (the jewelry will not "stick" if you don't move it). Try to handle your new piercing as little as possible to reduce the chance of infection. To clean your piercing, first wet the area with warm, preferably running water. Clean any dried matter away using clean fingers, Q-tip, ect, apply a small amount of cleanser, allow this to get wet, then work the jewelry back and forth in a circular motion for up to 1 minute. At this point place the area under clean running water and rinse thoroughly while again moving the jewelry back & forth. Be sure to rinse very well, it is important to remove all traces of the cleaning solutions to prevent irritation.
GENITALS: Clean one or two times a day using liquid soap or salt water (sodium-chloride) until healed. Most genital piercings heal quickly.Protection should be used during the healing period. |
